Trail Bites
The Trail Bites Series has one purpose - to introduce you to individual
skills on a short skills course and improve your confidence.
Trail Bites is a series of focused 2 hour mountain bike coaching sessions, each designed to sharpen specific skills at a time. Whether you're looking to master cornering, improve your braking technique, tackle steeper descents, or gain confidence jumping, Trail Bites breaks it
down into bite-sized, manageable sessions. Perfect for riders who want targeted coaching and each session delivers practical tips, personalised feedback, and the chance to build real trail confidence in a supportive environment.
Pick n Mix - Choose the session(s) that best suit your goals, and if you’re unsure where to start, we recommend starting with Session 1 and progressing through each one. This approach ensures you build a solid foundation, gradually refining your skills and cementing key techniques into your muscle memory over time.
SESSION 1 - BRAKING AND BODY POSITION
Master control and speed with effective braking and body position.
In this session, we’ll focus on two of the most fundamental skills every mountain biker needs: braking and body position. Learning how to brake effectively, modulate your speed, and position your body correctly on the bike will give you better control and confidence on any trail.
You’ll work on:
Braking techniques: Modulating front and rear brakes for control
Braking zones: Knowing when and where to brake for maximum efficiency
Body position: How to adjust your body for stability and better control
Weight distribution: How to balance your body to optimize braking and handling
Gaining smoother control: Combining braking with proper body movement for a more confident ride
With a strong grasp of these fundamentals, you’ll find your confidence growing and your riding becoming smoother, faster, and more controlled.
Control your bike, control your ride.
SESSION 2 - FINDING FLOW
Build the foundation for smoother, more confident riding.
In this session, we’ll focus on developing the essential skills that help you ride with control, rhythm, and — most importantly — flow. The day is split into two parts, starting with a personalised look at your current riding style and technique. From there, we’ll strengthen your foundation and introduce the skills that help everything click together on the trail.
You’ll work on:
Body position and movement for balance and efficiency
Bike movement and foot placement for better control
Braking zones and how to use them effectively
Pumping for maintaining speed
Where to look for trail awareness to keep momentum
Linking skills together for that flowy, connected feeling
This session is all about unlocking the fundamentals that make trails feel smoother, safer, and more fun.
Flow isn’t luck — it’s technique. Let’s find yours.
SESSION 3 - CORNERING
Find your flow and boost your confidence with better cornering.
Cornering is one of the most important — and fun — skills to develop on a mountain bike. In this Trail Bites session, we break it down and help you build a solid foundation so you can carry speed, stay in control, and ride with more confidence.
You’ll learn how to:
Read different types of corners — flat, bermed, or rutted
Position your body for balance and traction
Choose smooth lines and brake at the right time
Lean the bike with control and commit to the turnWhether you’re sliding out on loose turns or just want to ride with more flow, this session will give you the tools you need to corner with confidence.
Cornering is Life - and fun.
SESSION 4 - YOU LIKE IT STEEP
Tackle steep trails with more control, grip, and flow.
Steep terrain can be one of the most intimidating parts of mountain biking — but with the right technique, it becomes one of the most rewarding. Many bike parks and trail centres feature long, technical descents, and riding them confidently means adjusting your approach and developing key skills. In this session, we’ll focus on how to stay balanced, controlled, and confident on steeper gradients. You’ll learn:
Body position for maximum control and traction
Braking techniques, including the 2-1-none method
Bike and body movement to handle techy terrain
Cornering on steeps
How to find and use grip points
Maintaining speed safely without losing control
This session is perfect for riders who are ready to take the next step and build solid descending skills in a supportive environment.
Take the fear out of steeps — and ride with control, not caution.
SESSION 5 - JUMPING
Take your riding to new heights with controlled and confident jumps.
Jumping is one of the most exciting skills to master in mountain biking, but it requires precision, timing, control and practice. In this session, we’ll break down the essential techniques needed to jump with confidence so you can start your journey to have your wheels in the air.
You’ll learn how to:
Position your body to absorb and generate the right amount of lift
Preload and unweight the bike for a smooth takeoff
Control the bike in the air for better landings and stability
Maintain momentum and flow after landing
Proper body and bike alignment to prevent errors and enhance control
By the end of the session, you’ll have started your journey to learn the skills to jump with more control and confidence, adding a whole new dimension to your trail riding.
Float over obstacles and land with confidence.
