The Best Drops Progression in the WORLD

To celebrate spring and get the riding party started we are running a series of evening "drops" courses from 7pm - Dark at Farmer Johns Bike Park.

We have been working with Farmer John for a while to build all the features we need to make learning drops easy.

The Instructor Development Program we teach in Whistler Bike Park has a very specific way of teaching drops which minimises risk and catalyses progression.

This picture was Hannah's first day on a drop progression. Because her ALine Fundamentals were strong, she learnt that drops are easy. When your ALine Fundamentals are strong and you work through a time served progression with a professional ALine coach, you will learn drops are easy too.

If drops are something you would like to improve on or you're looking to develop more confidence, control and speed, this is the course for you.

Full face helmet, knee pads and entry fee (£5.00) to the park required.

Make sure you bring plenty of food drink and warm clothes, focus and concentration suffer if we are cold hungry or thirsty and its important to us you get the most from your investment.

WE HAVE SAID IT BEFORE WE WILL SAY IT AGAIN THERE IS SO MUCH TALENT IN SHEFFIELD NOT ONLY FOR RIDING BUT FOR FILM MAKERS!

Theres been a big shift in recent years with the movement from films to internet edits. We would really like to see film makes having the chance to share their new creations with a groups of like minded people on the big screen!

So come on down bring your edits and watch a load more! Pros, amateurs and every where in between all welcome!

If you cant get here on time, don't worry get down when you can and bring your heckle!

Screening starts at 6.30pm sharp!

Starting off with the best of the internet - there have been some cracking edits posted this year and we cant wait to see them in their full cinematic glory.

This month we have another premier from @getaBMX with the all the local dirt jumpers shredding the best Sheffield has to offer!

Farmer John is coming to town with an edit from their trip to the Red Bull Rampage this year! Hold on to your hats for the one.

and time permitting with Peatys retirement from MTB we though we would show his new film, I backed down......

Are you a filmmaker amateur or pro? Come share your edits!

Tech Talk - Chris Porter

Chris Porter - Your Bike Is Too Small.

Having met Chris last year at the TransProvence and read many of his articles in Dirt, MBR, Bike Radar etc we are really excited to bring him to Sheffield to talk us through geometry and bike set up.

Chris Porter has been in the industry a long time and watched it evolve over many years. Now the head honcho over at Mojo Suspension he's a man with some strong well thought out rational opinions. These have often proved controversial. The main focus on this talk will be bike design and geometry but it's fair to say with an open floor format there are a number of directions this session could go in.

Come to the saw mill on Friday the 27th of November 7pm- 9pm and find out more about the why Geometry is the way it is and why its slowly changing.

Teas and coffees provided

Stand up tall, say it loud, say it proud. Geometry

Location - ECCLESALL WOODS, ABBEY LANE, SHEFFIELD, SOUTH YORKSHIRE S7 2QZ

Overview.....

Start 6.30pm

Sprung 4:- Classic, Alex Rankin changed the face of MTB movies with his sprung series, this is the final and some may say the best.

7.30pm

The peoples edits, for many of us the highlight of the night.

Approx. 8.30pm (depending on edits length)

Earthed 1

This was the first of the later series from Alex Rankin. Instant classic and marked the start of another level of professionalism (read budget) in his work with just the right amount of nonsense.

If you can make it and fancy coming on down, post up below in the comments! If you have an edit you would like to bring, we would like to see it!

If you have any requests for future movie showings, post up !

Location Owen building by Arundel gate, glass front opposite Sainsburys !

Hope to se some of y'all there!

Tech Talk 1 Suspension - 26th January evening.

On the evening of Monday the 26th of January we have a tech talk on Suspension with world cup mechanic Tom Duncan.

Book in at the bottom of this page!

In this session we will work through:

  • A brief history
  • The recent switch to air as opposed to coil
  • The internal workings of suspension
  • Recent trends with simplification
  • Effects on geometry and linkage curve
  • Approaches to setting up your bike and how it can vary due to tracks and conditions

Theres lots of talk around suspension and settings, rebound, compression, low speed, high speed, spring rates, neg springs etc. In this talk our aim is to provide participants with a simple working model to understand modern day suspension and more importantly how these relate to "feel" and behavioural characteristics on the bike. We will be watching video footage and asking the audience to tell us, which is the dominant variable control on the suspension in the action.

Suspension is not complicated in its working principles which is all you need to set up your own bike!

That said, we didn't bring along a sports engineer/world cup mechanic for nothing. Once we have a working knowledge we will then look with more depth at how, in finer detail it is complicated, what current limitations and where the industry is heading!

The session will be approx. 1.5 hours long based at:

The Woodland Discovery Centre, Ecclesall Woods, Abbey Lane, Sheffield, S7 2QZ

Doors open at 7.00pm, talk begins at 7.15pm.
